Preparing for its inaugural season in the Women’s National Football Conference (WNFC), the Tennessee Trojans announced their head coach selection Saturday, August 6th. The Tennessee Trojans, a veteran and woman owned organization, sought to find a head coach that would embody the core of their mission statement: Empowerment of women to break down barriers and challenge the way the world sees women in sports. They found that and more in their newly appointed head coach.
The Tennessee Trojans are thrilled to announce the appointment of Constance Luttrell to Head Coach. Known as a trailblazer in Tennessee sports, at one time Luttrell was one of only two female high school football coaches in Tennessee. She is a proven leader with a calm, determined demeanor.
Luttrell’s football coaching career began in 2008, serving in the role of defensive coordinator. Her coaching acumen was on full display during her time at T.W. Hunter Middle School. In four championship winning seasons (2008, 2010, 2015, 2019), Luttrell twice earned Sumner County Middle School Coach of the Year (2015, 2019) and Defensive Coordinator of the Year (2008, 2010). She cemented her place in T.W. Hunter’s history with a 48-12 record and two championships over an eight year span as head coach. Her success at T.W. Hunter Middle School did not go unnoticed, resulting in her selection as defensive coordinator at East Robertson High School in 2020. In addition to her football coaching experience, she has coached collegiate golf and high school/middle school basketball and softball. Additionally, Luttrell holds a Master of Arts in Education (M.A. Ed), Human Performance and Sport Sciences with a concentration in Sport Administration from Tennessee State University and Bachelor of Science, Health Education Major, from Middle Tennessee State University.
“I am extremely excited for the opportunity that I have to coach, and the athletes have to play, the great game of football with the Tennessee Trojans organization. I have been around football from a young age but was never allowed to play the game. I look forward to growing the game of women’s tackle football and creating a family atmosphere with the Trojans.” - Constance Luttrell, Tennessee Trojans
Head Coach
“Her experience at both the middle school and high school levels as head coach and defensive coordinator will greatly benefit our team. Her credentials speak for themselves and we are very lucky to have Coach Luttrell on board.” - Rachael Ortiz-Marsh, Tennessee Trojans Founder/Owner
The Trojans began organized team activities (OTAs) which will continue throughout the remainder of the summer. Official tryouts kickoff September 2022 and draw to a close October 1st with participation in the WNFC’s National Tryout Day. Tryouts are a combine-like event in which the top talent from all athletic backgrounds compete for one of 45 roster spots available on the Tennessee Trojans.
